Dunedin Reef
Culverts and pilings at one end, holed concrete pyramids at the other
Dunedin Reef is a concrete artificial reef off the north Pinellas coast, dived at around 9 m (30 ft). Its north end is a field of concrete culverts and pilings, and its south end is a spread of concrete pyramids with holes in them. The modest depth leaves plenty of no-stop time for swimming both halves on one tank.

The dive
The dive sits at around 9 m (30 ft), shallow enough for a long bottom time on a single tank. The reef is built in two parts, and a dive can work along it from one to the other. The north part is a scatter of concrete culverts and pilings, the first of the two kinds of concrete structure met on a north-to-south swim across this part of the Gulf floor.
The south part of the reef changes character: here the material is concrete pyramids with holes cut through them, set out across the bottom. Swimming the length of the site gives a look at both kinds of structure on one dive, and the even depth means the whole route stays at around 9 m (30 ft) from the first culvert to the last pyramid.
