Alpha Funguo Wreck
A purpose-sunk trawler carrying frogfish, nudibranchs and batfish
The Alpha Funguo is a 45 m former fishing trawler sunk on purpose in 2002 to form an artificial reef off Diani Beach. It now carries an abundance of fish life and is especially good for macro photography, with nudibranchs and frogfish among the small life.

The dive
The wreck lies between 18 and 29 m, and an average dive on it sits at 22 m. Blue stripe snappers, batfish, jackfish, kingfish, groupers and barracuda are seen around it. Close up, the macro life is the draw: nudibranchs, frogfish and bearded scorpionfish. Garden eels and stingrays are also seen.

Season follows Diani Beach: Late November to mid-March is the best time to travel, with whale sharks from November to February; April to June is the main rainy season.
