Shakushi
A surface-piercing rock ringed by scattered rocks below
Shakushi is a rock off the Muroto coast that breaks the surface, with many more rocks scattered underwater around it. It lies about 10 minutes by boat from the harbour, and the scattered rocks give divers a choice of courses rather than a single set route.
Also known as 杓子.
Where it is and how deep

The dive
The boat ties up to a buoy or sets its anchor beside the rock that shows above the surface. Many more rocks lie scattered underwater around it, so the dive can follow several different courses between them, with the bottom at 18 m.

Season follows Muroto, Kannoura & Shishikui: May to July brings the bambooshark spawning; winter has steady visibility, but strong northwest wind can close sites.
