Flekkuvík
Lava arches under kelp, with wolffish tucked into the crevices
Flekkuvík is an ocean shore dive on the rugged Reykjanes Peninsula, 45 minutes from Reykjavík. Lava formations carved by volcanic activity lie under the kelp, and divers come for that North Atlantic mix of rock and life: wolffish in the crevices, cod and curious grey seals.
Also known as Flekkuvik.

The dive
From the easy shore entry the dive heads out over walls, boulders and lava arches, a varied topography that rewards exploration down to a maximum of 25 m. Kelp forests sway in gentle currents over the rock, and over 40 species of algae cover it.
Wolffish rest in the rocky crevices, while Atlantic cod, starfish, sea urchins and nudibranchs fill the gaps between the boulders. Curious grey seals also turn up along the lava coast.
