White Knight

A gully with swim-throughs at 10 m and at 35 m

Area photo: patano · CC BY-SA 3.0

A reef wall on the Sharm coast that drops away to a sandy plateau at about 13 m. A gully cuts through the centre of the site with swim-throughs at two very different depths, 10 m and 35 m, and an eel garden lies out on the sand to the north. Depth across the dive runs from 10 to 35 m.

The dive

The dive is built around the wall and the gully. The reef wall drops away and lands on a sandy plateau at about 13 m, and the centre of the site is cut by a gully running through it. That gully carries two swim-throughs at very different depths: one at 10 m, shallow enough to take on the way in or out, and a second at 35 m for divers with the experience and the gas to go and look at it.

North of the gully the sand opens into an eel garden, the quiet half of the site and the part worth keeping time for rather than rushing at the end of a deep pass. Working the plateau at about 13 m, between the foot of the wall and the open sand, keeps the profile shallow and leaves the deeper swim-through as one excursion rather than the shape of the whole dive.

Questions divers ask

How deep is White Knight?+

Between 10 and 35 m. The reef wall lands on a sandy plateau at about 13 m and most of the dive can be run there; the depth comes from the gully's lower swim-through at 35 m, which is optional.
