Voltaires Rock
A shallow coral area at 2-10 m over a slope that drops past 32 m

A named site just outside the Sogod Bay dive centre at Padre Burgos, built as a shallow coral area between 2 and 10 m that then tips into a slope running down past 32 m. The corals are diverse, both soft and hard, and the macro list runs from pygmy seahorses to frogfish and ghost pipefish. Big fish action turns up when the current is moving.

The dive
The dive works in two layers. The shallow area between 2 and 10 m is coral ground, diverse in both soft and hard corals, and it is the part of the site you can work slowly. From the edge of that shallow ground the reef turns into a slope that keeps dropping to 32 m and beyond, so the profile is yours to choose: stay up top for a long shallow dive, or take one leg down the slope and come back to the shallows to finish.
Macro is the reason to go slowly. Pygmy seahorses, frogfish, scorpionfish, nudibranchs, ghost pipefish and moray eels are all on the list here, and finding them means moving slowly over the coral rather than covering ground. The site changes character when the water is moving: there is big fish action when the current runs, so it is worth checking which way it is going before you drop in and planning any deeper leg into it.
