Jetty-entry wall to 40 m dived for tuna, dolphins and passing whale sharks

Flamenco Beach Resort is a house reef entered from the resort jetty, where the reef walls down to about 40 m and then keeps descending. Coral formations are not very present below about 18 m, so the wall is dived for what passes in the blue: eagle rays, tuna, dolphins, and in a good season a passing whale shark. Fusiliers, moray eels and hawksbill turtles are the reef residents.

The dive
You enter from the jetty and drop straight onto a reef that walls down to about 40 m and then descends further, so this is a shore dive with a deep-wall profile rather than a shallow bay. Choose your maximum before you get wet. The coral formations are concentrated in the upper part of the wall and are not very present below about 18 m, so a profile that spends its deep minutes looking outwards and its long minutes above 18 m gives you the best of both.
The point of going deeper is the blue. The listing says the site is excellent for sightings off the wall: tuna and dolphins are often possible, and in a good season it is not difficult to catch a passing whale shark. Closer in, fusiliers, eagle rays, moray eels and hawksbill turtles are listed for the reef. Come back up along the wall to the coral zone and finish the dive at the jetty where it began.

Season follows El Quseir: Sheltered shore dives, so the winter wind that disrupts boat schedules from October to April matters less; water falls to 23 °C by February and peaks near 30 °C in late summer.
Know before you go
- The wall does not end at 40 m but keeps descending; set a hard floor before the dive and watch the gauge, as there is little coral below 18 m to mark your depth.
