Pointe de Chaucre
Shoals of cuttlefish over gently sloping rock
A rocky point off the Chaucre beach at Saint-Georges-d'Oléron, and the logical next step after a try-dive in the cove for newly certified Level 1 divers. Gentle rocky ground, crevices full of crustaceans and passing shoals of cuttlefish make it the first drop-off of the island's beginner sites.
Also known as Chaucre.

The dive
The rocky bottom slopes down gently to about 15 m. Curious conger eels look out from the cracks in the rock, lobsters and other crustaceans fill the crevices, and shoals of cuttlefish move over the reef.

Is Pointe de Chaucre a shore or a boat dive?+
A boat dive, launched easily from the coast. The beach entry nearby serves the shallow Chaucre cove used for first dives, not the point itself.
