Koh Kon is a critter dive rather than a reef tour. The shallow east side carries coral in close to the island, the west drops away to a sandy bottom at around 16 m, and the whole thing is worked slowly and close in - visibility runs from 5 to 25 m but is usually nearer 10. It is a day-trip site on a small uninhabited island.

The dive
Koh Kon is a small uninhabited island an hour and a half to two hours out from the mainland, dived off the same day boats that work the inshore islands. The east side is the shallow half: coral runs in close to the island and down to about 6 m, easy water to potter along. The west side is where the ground falls away - gradually at the south end, more sharply as you move north - to a sandy bottom at around 16 m, which is as deep as the site goes.
The interest is small and close. Seahorses are the find here; electric blue-spotted stingrays mingle with moray eels, bamboo and cat sharks turn up over the same ground, and octopus, squid and crustaceans work the rubble. Visibility ranges from 5 to 25 m but is usually about 10 m, so this is a dive spent looking close in rather than scanning the slope.
