Renggis Island

Easy shallow reef with blacktip sharks and green turtles

Photo: Wloski · CC0

A small rock island off Tioman's west coast, Renggis is the island's standby easy dive: a shallow reef with a maximum depth of around 16 metres, mostly no current and good visibility. Blacktip reef sharks and green turtles are seen here very often, and the same ground doubles as a night dive and one of the best snorkelling stops on the island.

The dive

This is an easy dive on a small rock island: shallow coral around the rock, a maximum depth of around 16 metres and mostly no current to work against. Visibility is good, and the bottom holds enough small life, scorpionfish among it, that it reads as a macro dive as much as a reef swim. It is a known spot for underwater macro photography.

Blacktip reef sharks and green turtles are seen here very often, and bumphead parrotfish come through over the coral. The shallow, sheltered ground and the short run out from the beach also make Renggis the island's usual night dive, and it is one of the best places on Tioman to snorkel, so there are often people on the surface above you.
