The dive
The boat reaches Punta Veleros about 5 minutes from the Los Órganos pier, so the dive starts with almost no transit. The reef bottoms out at a maximum of 14 m, and its main feature is a coral garden that gives shelter to a wide diversity of marine species. With visibility on this coast usually around 4 m and up to 7 m on a good day, the reef is best explored slowly and close to the bottom.
Fish of many sizes, shapes and colours fill the coral garden. Octopus and lobster live among the reefs, and both green and hawksbill turtles swim calmly between them. Water off Los Órganos ranges from about 18 °C in September to 23 °C in February, and between July and October whale song is often heard on dives along this coast.
