The dive
The site is a single rock that breaks the surface close to Ilha dos Meros. The dive follows the rock from the surface all the way down to its deepest point at 22 m. Most of the marine life gathers around the rock itself, where it moves in large numbers, so the dive stays close to the stone from top to bottom.
Laje dos Meros is one of the places in Paraty where the variety of the bay's marine life is easiest to see, and the area is known for its good visibility. Because of its position, boats only run the dive when the sea is calm. The base of the rock lies beyond the depth limit of an entry-level certification, so the full descent suits divers with deeper training, while the upper part of the rock stays shallow.
