Redbait Reef

Redbait Reef is a shallow reef entered directly from the shore in Plettenberg Bay, with no boat ride needed. It is suited to beginners and to photographers working in natural light, and its small residents make it an easy first dive in the bay.

The dive
The reef lies between 6 and 9 m, shallow enough for plenty of natural light. Colourful anemones, urchins and sponges cover it, and juvenile reef fish, cuttlefish and shysharks are regularly spotted among them.

Season follows Robberg & Plettenberg Bay: September and October are the best months; onshore south-easterlies churn the sea up in summer, while winter westerlies clear the water.
