Miller's Point is a shore dive on the False Bay coast of the Cape Peninsula, shallow along the shoreline reefs and reaching at least 15 m only on the eastern reefs a couple of hundred metres out. Dense kelp forest surrounds the point wherever the substrate is rock, and a sheltered cove here is one of the largest known aggregation sites for broadnose sevengill sharks.
Also known as Rumbly Bay.

The dive
The dive stays shallow from the moment you are in. Maximum depth is probably between 6 and 8 m along the shoreline reefs, and the ground is a fairly shallow rocky reef of granite corestone outcrops and boulders rather than anything flat, so the route is a matter of working the edges of the rock. There are small swim-throughs and quite a few overhangs and holes under the boulders, and most of what is worth finding here is tucked into that broken ground rather than out in the open.
Dense kelp forests surround the point wherever there is a rocky substrate, so much of the shallows is spent finding gaps between the stipes and staying under the canopy. If you want more depth, the eastern reefs extend to at least 15 m a couple of hundred metres out. The sheltered cove at the point is one of the largest known aggregation sites for broadnose sevengill sharks, though a sighting is not something to count on: the species has also been observed being preyed upon by orcas in False Bay.

Season follows Cape Peninsula Kelp Forests: The Atlantic side is mainly a summer dive, the western shore of False Bay a winter one, when the South-Easter drops; shifting spring winds (Sep-Oct) can blow out both coasts.

A sheltered cove at Miller's Point is one of the largest known aggregation sites for broadnose sevengill sharks, and that is why many divers come. Sightings are not guaranteed; the species has also been observed being preyed upon by orcas in False Bay.
