Sheltered schooner wreck in the Rödhamn archipelago, out of the wind

Photo: Håkan Skogsjö · CC BY-SA 4.0

The Planet was a wooden-hulled, two-masted schooner about 25 m long, built in 1898 on Ösel and registered to Parainen in the Finnish archipelago. It sank in the Rödhamn archipelago in 1922 and now lies at a very sheltered spot on the seabed.

The dive

The Planet rests on a clay seabed in the Rödhamn archipelago, its deepest point at 15 m. The site is protected from the wind, but the clay bottom can cut the visibility around the schooner. Many details survive, among them the wooden anchor windlass, the ship's railings and the decking, where the mast holes are still visible.

  • The clay seabed around the wreck can leave visibility poor, especially once it is disturbed.
