A gentle 6-metre shelf that slopes on down to 30

Moray Garden lies south of Dahab, a beach dive that its listing classes as both a confined-area and an open-water site. The ground descends gently to 6 metres before sloping on down to 30, over sand, coral garden and pinnacles, with seagrass and reef fish through the shallows. The easy start makes it a training site as much as a fun dive.

The dive
You walk in off the beach and the bottom drops away gently to about 6 metres. This shelf is the part that gets used for training — shallow and sheltered enough that the site is classed as a confined area as well as open water — and it is also where the seagrass grows and the reef fish are, so a course group and a fun dive can share the same entry.
Past the shelf the slope continues down to 30 metres over sand, coral garden and pinnacles. The pinnacles are what stands out of the sand down there, and how far you follow the slope is the main decision on the dive; turn when depth or gas says so. The way back comes up over the assorted coral and the seagrass, which is the part of the site worth saving for the end of the tank.
