A town house reef: seagrass, then coral blocks to 22 metres

Fish and Friends is the house reef of the dive centre of the same name on the Dahab waterfront, entered off its private beach. Seagrass meadows in the shallows give way to a small reef running north-east to about 22 metres, and the individual coral blocks along it hold most of the small life the site is dived for.

The dive
The walk in starts at the parking lot by the Oasis Fighting Cangoroo Camp: through a small alley onto the promenade, then left along it to the private beach of the Fish & Friends Dive Center, where you kit up and step in. The first ground is seagrass meadow, shallow and better crossed slowly than swum over, since it is habitat rather than a gap to cover.
From the meadows a small reef runs north-east and down to about 22 metres. The individual coral blocks along it are the dive: countless shrimps, dragonheads, stonefish, anemonefish, moray eels, ghost pipefish, dwarf lionfish, damselfish and schooling bannerfish, all packed into a small area. That is a house reef's advantage — the same blocks repay a second and third dive.
