Scoglio del Remaiolo
An outcropping rock with an Open Water north side and a ridge sinking to 50 m

The Scoglio del Remaiolo is an outcropping rock off Elba's south-east coast. Its southern side forms a ridge that sinks to about 50 m, while the northward dive is suitable for Open Water divers, so the rock gives two dives of very different depth. Barracuda and grouper are the regulars, schools of amberjack turn up at times, and snapper appear fast when they are hunting.

The dive
The Remaiolo breaks the surface, so the boat drops you beside the rock and the guide picks a side. The northward dive is the one the source describes as suitable for Open Water divers: you follow the rock on its north side within Open Water depth, keeping the outcrop in sight as a reference, and come back to the boat the same way you went.
The southern side is the deep option. Here the rock forms a ridge that keeps dropping to about 50 m, so this route is for divers trained for depth and planned with a hard floor well above the bottom of the ridge. Go down the ridge to your limit, turn, and ascend along the same line of rock so the outcrop guides you back to the mooring.
Either way the fish are the reason to come. Barracuda and grouper are found here, schools of amberjack pass at times, and hunting snapper appear and vanish quickly. Finish on the shallow rock around the outcrop for the safety stop, with the rock as a reference for the ascent, before you surface to the boat.

Season follows Elba & the Tuscan Archipelago: The season runs May–September with a warm October; the sea bottoms out near 14 °C in February–March, spring and autumn winds push boats to sheltered sites, and Pianosa's buoys open April–November.
