Broken rubble ground from 5 m to 16 m, then open sand

A rubble slope on the southeastern corner of Gili Trawangan, running from 5 m down to 16 m before the bottom turns to open sand. There is no wall and no big structure here. The interest is the broken ground itself, which is the kind of bottom that rewards a slow, close search rather than a swim, and the profile stays shallow throughout.

The dive
The site sits off the southeastern corner of Gili Trawangan, a short boat ride from the island. You drop onto the top of the slope at about 5 m and work down over rubble, broken coral rather than continuous reef, with the ground falling away gently enough that you can hold whatever depth you want. Because the bottom is low and open rather than built up, this is a dive to swim slowly and look closely rather than one to cover distance on.
At 16 m the rubble runs out and the bottom becomes sand, which makes an obvious turnaround; there is little reason to push past it. Most dives loop back up through the middle of the slope and finish on the shallow ground at 5 m, which sits under enough light to be worth a long safety stop. Water moving through the channels between the islands can push along this corner, so which way the loop runs is usually settled at the briefing rather than in the water.

Season follows Gili Islands: Divable year-round; Apr–Nov brings the calmest crossings, and mola mola occasionally appear Aug–Oct on the deeper sites.
