Grand Central Station
Grey reef sharks cruising past schools of fusiliers and jacks off the point
Grand Central Station is a steep reef wall leading to a point at the north-western tip of the Gizo islands, just off the shore of Njari Island. Merging oceanic currents bring in sharks, trevally and batfish along with reef fish, and over 270 fish species have been recorded here on a single dive.
Also known as Grand Central, Grand Central Reef.

The dive
The dive runs down a gully off the reef top at 5 m, then follows a steep wall to the point, with the bottom at 28 m and a median depth of 22 m. Out in the blue in front of the wall, schools of fusiliers, trevally and jacks gather in the merging oceanic currents, and grey reef sharks cruise by again and again. Batfish and colourful reef species add to the crowd, and above 14 m the corals are in good shape.
