Angel Reef lies just south of Panjang off Moyo. Healthy hard corals fill its protected, shoreward shallows before the reef breaks into an abrupt vertical wall, where black-tip reef sharks are common predators and yellowtail tuna hunt the deep channels.

The dive
Divers make their way down a steep bank from the coral shallows to the top of the wall, where large schools of redtooth triggerfish, long-fin bannerfish and rounded batfish gather. The face is laden with colourful soft tree corals and a few hardy sheet corals, and fractured, barren blast zones from past dynamite fishing dot the wall. Occasional currents run along it, and the wall keeps plunging to well over 40 m.

Know before you go
- The wall drops to well over 40 m, so depth has to be watched on the face.
