Cañones Es Vedranell
Three passes cut clean through the islet wall

Es Vedranell is the smaller islet just off Es Vedrà, and its dive is a wall cut through by three passes that cross from one side to the other. They run from 28 metres at the deep end up to just short of the surface, so the dive is built around finding a pass, swimming through it and coming out on the far side of the rock.

The dive
The site is the islet of Es Vedranell, just off Es Vedrà, and the interest is in the rock itself: three passes cross the wall from one side to the other. They run from 28 metres at the deep end to just short of the surface, so a group can take the deepest pass first and work progressively shallower through the dive rather than swimming a single level along the face.
Inside and around the passes the walls carry very colourful sponges, and there are moray eels on the rock. Out in the water off the rock there are sea bass, barracuda and damselfish, so the dive alternates between the enclosed light of a pass and open blue on the far side of the wall. Nudibranchs are on the rock for anyone prepared to work it slowly.

Season follows Ibiza & Formentera: Logged dives climb from April, peak in July and August and fall away through November; December to March activity is negligible on both islands.

The three passes run from 28 metres at their deep end up to just below the surface, so the profile depends on which of them you take and how you link them together. The deep end is beyond Open Water limits; the shallow end is not.
