Costão da Jaconema
Rocky coastline between 4 and 15 m, dived by day and by night
Area photo: Feliperogeriobr · CC BY-SA 4.0
A classic Ilha Grande rocky-coastline dive running between 4 and 15 m, listed in the dive guides as Deck Pous Nautilus. The shallow sheltered profile takes beginners and still gives certified divers something to work along, and the source rates the night dive here as excellent, with a lot of marine life on it after dark. Nothing on it is deep or demanding.
Also known as Deck Pous Nautilus.

The dive
This is a costão dive — a rocky island shoreline followed along its length rather than swum out from. The profile runs from a minimum of 4 m at the top of the rock to a maximum of 15 m where it meets the bottom, and the site's own description is that the dive can be done by beginners or advanced divers. That is a fair way of saying it forces nothing on you: hold the shallow rock, or drop to the base and follow that instead.
Ilha Grande's coastline is rock and sand rather than coral, with most of the interest packed into the cracks and overhangs between rounded boulders, and shallow, dim, slow ground of that kind is exactly what makes a site worth diving after dark. The source calls the night dive here excellent, with a lot of marine life. With 15 m as the floor, gas and no-stop time are rarely what ends the dive, so the pace can be as slow as your light allows.
What is not published for this site is the detail: no visibility or current figures, no water temperature, and no species named beyond that line about a lot of marine life on the night dive. The bay's own ranges apply, and the day's briefing is where the conditions come from. Take the 4 to 15 m span as the one hard number the site publishes about itself.
