Uhara-jima
A maze of ledges where bullhead sharks rest
Uhara-jima is a boat point on the east side of Uhara Island, close to the harbour and sheltered from south winds. Almost no current reaches it, so newer divers can explore a rock reef of walls, shelves and crevasses, where bullhead sharks are often found and frogfish and lumpfish hide.
Also known as Uhara Island.

The dive
The island's reef forms a wall from 5 m down to 25 m, broken by shelves, cracks and patches of sand. The top of the reef is a tangle of rock like a maze; divers who lose their way head east, which leads off the reef.
Bullhead sharks are found often on the walls and on the shelves over the reef top. Frogfish live here too, and from winter into spring lumpfish turn up as well.
