A 45-degree sand slope divers call the ski slope

A headland dive on the north-west corner of Bagaud, one of the smallest of the Hyères islands, in the heart of the Port-Cros National Park. The site runs from the surface to 34 m and is known locally for its "ski slope", a 45-degree sandy incline that gives the dive its shape and lets you choose your depth on the way down and back.

The dive
The dive is on the north-west side of Bagaud, one of the smallest islands of the Hyères group and inside the Port-Cros National Park. What names the site locally is the "ski slope": a sandy incline of about 45 degrees running off the headland. The profile is 0 to 34 m, so the site accommodates whatever depth your certification and gas plan allow rather than committing you to one.
Read the slope as the dive plan. Drop in at the point, follow the sand down the incline to your planned depth — 34 m is the bottom of the site — then turn and climb back up the slope towards the headland, which makes the ascent gradual and puts the safety stop over shallow ground. The fixed fauna is the reason to carry a camera: red, yellow and white gorgonians, sponges and yellow anemones, with scorpionfish, conger eels and moray eels in the rock.
