A shore dive at Korakas that goes a long way down: out over a Posidonia seagrass meadow at around 8 m, onto rock at 24 m, and on to a 44 m floor. The operator lists it as a Deep Diver site. Sea breams, octopus and combers live on the rock, with frequent moray eels and grouper species.

The dive

This dive begins from the shore at Korakas, and the first stretch is easy: you swim out and descend past a Posidonia seagrass meadow at around 8 m, which is the warm-up and the navigation reference for the way home. The deep dive starts where the grass ends, and everything the operator lists as the point of the site sits below it, so gas and time have to be managed from the beach rather than from the first drop.

Past the seagrass the bottom turns to rock at 24 m and keeps falling, reaching 44 m at its deepest. The operator lists the site as a Deep Diver dive for that reason: the whole rocky section sits below 24 m, and the plan has to be set before you leave the meadow. On the rock you find the Mediterranean residents, sea breams, octopus and combers, with frequent sightings of moray eels and grouper species. The way home is the reverse: back up the rock to the meadow at 8 m, which doubles as a long shallow stop on the swim in.
