Ifuru Thila

Round channel thila at the atoll's eastern end, 5 m down to 35 m

Ifuru Thila is a round channel thila on the east side of You & Me Maldives, at the eastern end of Raa Atoll near Ifuru island. The top reef starts at 5 m and the reef runs down to 35 m, and its round shape makes it a simple circuit for a group, with depth as the only variable to plan.

The dive

Descend onto the top reef at 5 m; the thila is round, so the dive is a circuit with the reef kept on one side throughout. Drop down the side to your planned depth early, since the reef continues to 35 m, then work round the thila at that level and move up as no-decompression time comes down, so that the circuit closes on the shallower reef.

The site sits in a channel at the end of the atoll on its east side, so expect open water beyond the reef and stay close to the guide when rounding the thila. Finish the circuit back on the top at 5 m, which gives a long shallow finish and a safety stop with the reef beside you before ascending to the boat.

Season follows Raa Atoll: Dec–Apr is the calm, clear window and when mantas use the Uthuru Maafaru cleaning stations; the south-west monsoon (Jun–Nov) brings rain and a choppy surface.
