Dredger Rock
Wreck on sand at 24 m, white tips passing now and then
A shipwreck on sand at a maximum of 24 m, ten minutes out from Beau Vallon and moored like the other Mahe wrecks. Current is usually light, which makes it an unhurried dive on structure: stonefish and pipefish on the wreck itself, yellow snapper and butterflyfish around it, and white tip reef sharks passing through now and then.

The dive
About ten minutes from Beau Vallon beach, eight from Bel Ombre marina, the boat picks up the wreck's mooring line and you follow it down to a hull sitting on sand at a maximum depth of 24 m. Current is usually light and only rarely strong, so most groups can take the wreck at their own pace rather than committing to one direction from the start.
Search the plating and the sand line first: stonefish sit motionless on both, and pipefish hang in the shelter of the structure. Yellow snapper and butterflyfish hold over the wreck, and white tip reef sharks come through from time to time. A guitarfish is the reward for anyone who swims a little way out onto the sand before turning back to the mooring line for the ascent.

Season follows Seychelles: Inter-monsoon periods (Mar-May, Oct-Nov) are calmest with the best visibility; whale sharks pass through the inner-island channels August through October.

- Stonefish blend into the plating and the surrounding sand, so keep hands and fins clear of anything you have not looked at twice.
