Brissare Rocks

The current is the point here, and it is dived September to May

Brissare Rocks is an outcrop of granite in open water off Mahe where a strong current pulls in bigger fish: small sharks and barracuda work the flow. Corals and their reef fish cover the rock to a maximum of 20 metres. Next to it stands Dragon's Teeth, a formation of well-grown granite spurs where lobster, turtles, whitetip and nurse sharks, eagle rays and batfish are found to 23 metres.

Also known as Brissaire Rocks.

The dive

Brissare Rocks is dived as a granite structure in moving water. The rock and its outcrops carry a mixed growth of corals and the fish that go with them, and all of that is inside 20 metres, so this is a shallow dive in which the current, not depth, shapes the plan. The flow is strong, and it is what brings the bigger fish onto the site.

The regulars in that flow are small sharks and barracuda, which is why the rock is rated for experienced divers rather than kept as an easy first boat dive. Alongside Brissare stands Dragon's Teeth, a formation of well-grown granite spurs running to a maximum of 23 metres: lobster, turtles, whitetip and nurse sharks, eagle rays and batfish are the sightings there. The two sit side by side on the same granite.
