Twin pinnacles beside a coral-carpeted slope off French Cay
Area photo: SNORKELINGDIVES.COM · CC BY 2.0
Double D lies just off the bird sanctuary on uninhabited French Cay and takes its name from two large pinnacles rising from the sea floor. The wall is a gradual slope carpeted in coral, and the site draws spadefish, horse-eye jacks, eagle rays and Caribbean reef sharks.

The dive
Divers go in with a negative entry. Two large pinnacles rise from the sea floor, and the wall beside them is a fairly gradual slope with a heavy carpet of coral along its whole length, running from 5 m at the top to 30 m. Atlantic spadefish, horse-eye jacks, barracudas, turtles and eagle rays are typical, along with several large Caribbean reef sharks.

Season follows Turks & Caicos: January–April brings calm seas and the humpback whale migration through the Turks Island Passage; September–October is peak hurricane season.
Know before you go
- Currents off French Cay are often strong, so the site suits divers comfortable handling them.
