Murray Road Boat Ramp

Murray Road boat ramp is a shore dive on the Torndirrup side of Albany and one of the easiest entries in the area: walk in from the ramp and follow a small rock wall at an average depth of about 5 m. It is a beginner dive, and it is protected from most weather other than easterlies.

The dive
The entry is the simple part: in from the ramp and out along a small rock wall that averages about 5 m. There is nothing to plan around at that depth - no ceiling on bottom time worth worrying about, no descent to manage - which is why the site works as an early open-water dive, a refresher after a break, or a place to sort out a new piece of kit.
The wall carries fish common to the South Coast bioregion: dusky morwong, wrasse over the rock, and juvenile groper. The site is protected in most conditions, and an easterly is the wind that spoils it, so on those days it is worth taking one of the other shore entries inside the Sound instead and coming back when the wind swings.

Season follows Albany: Charters run year-round; December to March is the dry, warm half of the year, June to August the wet half with July the wettest month, and the whales are in the Sound July to October.
