The Bone Yard

The Bone Yard is a small site in King George Sound where dense plate coral rises from 18 m to 13 m. It is an easy dive with an even profile and no depth to manage, recommended for beginners and for divers getting back in the water, and it carries dense schools of swallowtail and Bight redfish over the coral.

The dive
The site is small and the profile is even: densely packed plate coral rising off the bottom at 18 m to a top at 13 m. Five metres of relief is all there is, which is what makes the dive an easy one - nothing to descend to, nothing to be careful about on the way up, and enough bottom time at that depth to go round the whole thing more than once.
Schools of swallowtail and Bight redfish hold over the coral in numbers. Lower down, Sergeant Baker sit on the bottom, Western blue devil hold among the plates and octopus work the gaps between them. It is the site to give a buddy who has not dived in a while, or to use as the second dive of a day that started deeper out in the Sound.

Season follows Albany: Charters run year-round; December to March is the dry, warm half of the year, June to August the wet half with July the wettest month, and the whales are in the Sound July to October.
