The dive
The dive heads out over seagrass and comes out onto a large underwater plain with big boulders scattered across it, rather than a continuous reef or a wall. The east side sits a little further out from shore than its western counterpart, and the ground deepens gently rather than dropping away, so the profile builds through the dive instead of starting deep.
The operator gives the area of interest as 15 to 30 metres and the maximum as 45, which makes this the deeper of the two Mavros Kavos dives. The boulders are credited with housing an abundant amount of large fish, and the offshore position is why larger fish and marine life turn up here more often than on the west side, so it pays to look out into the water as well as down among the rocks.
