The dive
The west side of Mavros Kavos is a wall dive - a vertical wall, in the operator's words - with sandy bottom off to your left, so you have hard structure on one shoulder and open sand on the other for most of the swim. The points of interest are between 15 and 25 metres and the site maximum is 40, so the plan can stay comfortably mid-range along the face.
Following the wall leads out to a large seagrass field, and then you follow the same wall back along. The dive is often finished off in a small cave just the other side of the bay, and that cave is the payoff: the operator says it is nearly always full of a large school of young fish. Worth arriving there with gas and time still in hand rather than rushing the wall to reach it.
