The Cathedral
A massive cave in the wall of a small island east of the Magnet
The Cathedral is a steep wall at Anak Ewok, a small island to the east of the Magnet in Belongas Bay. It is an advanced dive in swell and current, and divers come for a massive cave deep in the wall and for the larger animals that patrol it.

The dive
The steep wall is covered with soft corals, sponges and tunicates, and at 40 m it holds a massive cave, enveloped by schooling pelagics. White-tip, black-tip and grey reef sharks, tuna, mackerel and barracuda patrol the wall, and eagle rays sometimes pass in groups.

Season follows Belongas Bay & South Lombok: Hammerheads peak from August to November; Belongas is calmest from March to mid-June and in October and November.
Know before you go
- Waves fill the top five metres, so entries and exits need timing.
- The wall continues below the cave to about 50 m, in swell and current.
