Tiger Rock
Open-water pinnacles reached only in the September-October calm window

Tiger Rock is a group of pinnacles in open water roughly 40 km from Isla Colón, and the most exposed dive regularly run out of Bocas del Toro. The seabed and current mean it is sold as a full-day trip rather than a two-tank morning, offered only in September and October when the swell drops enough for boats to reach it. Schools of jacks and barracuda work the rock, with hammerhead and bull sharks among the pelagic visitors.

The dive
Tiger Rock sits in open water about 40 km from Isla Colón, far enough out that it is run as a full-day trip rather than a normal two-tank morning, with a lunch stop at the Zapatilla Cays on the way. The site is a cluster of pinnacles rising from deep water, with the accessible wall running down to about 35 m. Currents are usually strong, which is also what draws the fish: schools of jacks and barracuda stack up around the rock whenever the flow is running.
It is the closest thing the archipelago has to a big-animal dive. Hammerhead and bull sharks are seen here more than at any other site in Bocas del Toro, alongside sizeable groupers and reef sharks patrolling the structure. None of it is guaranteed on a given day, and the open, current-swept setting means divers need to be comfortable in blue water with no reef to retreat to.
Access depends entirely on the weather. Operators only run the trip in September and October, the archipelago's calmer mini-dry season, when swell and current settle enough for a small boat to make the crossing and for divers to work the pinnacles safely. Outside that window the site is simply not offered, whatever the demand.

Season follows Bocas del Toro: Dry, calmer spells run February-April and September-October, when visibility improves and swell drops enough for Tiger Rock; the rest of the year is wetter and windier.
