Pangangan Wall
Shallow muck over a coral wall that falls to 60 m

Pangangan Wall lies off Pangangan Island, about 7 km east of Cabilao, and gives two dives in one: shallow muck between roughly 3 and 6 m, then a colourful coral wall that begins around 7 m and drops to about 60. The shallows carry sea moths, ghost pipefish, ribbon eels and devil scorpionfish; eagle rays and whitetip reef sharks pass along the wall below.

The dive
Two quite different dives share one site here, and which one you get depends on where the guide puts you. Between about 3 and 6 m the ground is muck — sand and rubble with very little on it until you slow down, at which point sea moths, devil scorpionfish, ghost pipefish, ribbon eels and juvenile batfish start appearing. It is the shallowest diving on the Cabilao circuit and, for macro photographers, the reason to make the crossing.
The wall starts at around 7 m and falls away to something like 60, and it is the colourful one: soft coral and gorgonians over the face with the usual overhangs and cuts. Eagle rays pass along it and whitetip reef sharks turn up occasionally, so it repays looking out into the blue rather than staying nose-down the whole time. Most dives work the wall first while gas and no-stop time allow, then come up onto the muck.
Pangangan is a separate island from Cabilao, about 7 km east, so this is a trip rather than a hop and it goes on the schedule when the conditions suit. Operators on Cabilao pair it with Sandingan on the same run, since both sit off the same stretch of the Bohol mainland.

Season follows Cabilao: Dived year-round; Nov–Jun is the main season and the low season runs roughly May–Oct, when the south-west monsoon works the exposed sides.
Know before you go
- The wall drops to about 60 m: set a hard maximum before the dive, because the shallow muck above it makes it easy to misjudge how far the ground falls away.

Questions divers ask
How deep is Pangangan Wall?+
The muck section runs between about 3 and 6 m, and the wall beside it begins at around 7 m and descends to roughly 60. The deep face is past recreational limits, so an agreed maximum is the norm.
How do you dive Pangangan Wall?+
By boat from Cabilao's west-coast resorts — Pangangan is a separate island about 7 km east, so it runs as a trip rather than a house-reef dive, usually paired with Sandingan.
