Popolcan Island

A beginner-friendly sloping reef in Bacuit Bay with a healthy coral cover that a resident operator describes as an underwater forest. The dive begins on a coral garden at 5–10 m and slopes gradually away, with low current and visibility of 10–30 m — an easy site that still gives deeper divers somewhere to go.

The dive
The dive typically begins on the shallow coral garden at around 5–10 m, where the density of growth — the "underwater forest" of the operator's description — is at its best and a new diver can spend the whole dive without going deeper. From the garden the reef slopes gradually away rather than dropping, so depth comes on slowly and stays a choice.
Groups with the experience for it can follow the sloping wall down towards its deeper reaches at roughly 25–30 m before turning back up the gradient. Current is low, under a knot, and visibility runs 10–30 m, so navigation is simply up-slope and down-slope. The ascent happens back over the garden, which makes an unhurried end to the dive.
