Sund-Drift
Riding the Fehmarnsund current between the piers of the bridge
The Sund-Drift is a current dive through the Fehmarnsund under the Sundbrücke, the bridge onto Fehmarn. Divers ride the flow along the channel between the bridge piers at 9 to 10 m, with the boat following behind them. It is a popular boat dive and runs regularly as a near-shore trip.
Also known as Drift Sundbrücke, Fehmarnsund Bridge Drift.

The dive
Divers are put in the water in the current shadow behind the bridge piers, then let the flow carry them through the channel between the piers at 9 to 10 m. The bottom is sand with mussel beds and boulders, and there are usually countless crabs and many flatfish. The boat stays behind the group for the whole drift, so it is on the spot when divers surface.
