Südstrand Hausriff
A house reef a few steps from the base, with 10 m visibility on calm days
The Südstrand Hausriff is the house reef off the south beach at Meeschendorf, a few steps from the dive base. The water is shallow, with a maximum depth of 3 to 5 m, and on a flat calm sea visibility often reaches about 10 m. It suits beginners and divers getting back into the water after a break.
Also known as Hausriff, Südstrand.

The dive
Divers kit up at the base and walk a few metres to the sea. The sandy, pebbly bottom is covered with large seagrass meadows, algae and small boulders, home to crabs, pipefish, small shrimp and jellyfish, with flatfish, sticklebacks, snails and starfish for a sharp eye. The shallow water leaves no need to hurry over dive time, and night dives here turn into a voyage of discovery.

Season follows Fehmarn: Boats run from May to September, and July and August are the peak, with wreck trips almost every day.
Know before you go
- A marker buoy per buddy team is mandatory in the shallows, because divers share the beach with other people.
