Pnigmenos Bay

Rock gorges to stop in and study the walls up close

Pnigmenos Bay is the first cove on the back side of Telendos, the small car-free islet facing Kalymnos. Its rocky bottom is cut by underwater gorges that lead the diver through the rock and make navigation simple. With no current and a bottom within 20 m, it suits beginners while still holding the interest of experienced divers.

Also known as Pnigmenos.

The dive

The boat stops roughly in the middle of the cove and divers drop in straight from it, swimming a short way toward the left side of the bay as seen facing the beach before descending.

From there the route threads a series of smaller and larger gorges through the rock. They are wide enough to stop in and look closely at the submerged faces, and they act as natural guide lines, so the way through is easy to follow. The route reaches about 15 m, in quite good visibility and without any current.
