Paris II

A 1917 freighter sunk by shore artillery, minutes from Kemer

Paris II is a French freighter sunk off Kemer in 1917 that now lies flat on the seabed close to the harbour. The 70 m hull sits between 23 and 32 m, usually in good visibility and low current, and its depth keeps it for experienced divers.

Also known as Paris 2, Paris II Wreck, Paris 2 wreck.

The dive

Divers descend the shotline from the surface buoy straight onto the wreck. The hull lies flat on the bottom, its highest point at about 25 m and its deepest, at the propeller, at about 32 m. The ship is 70 m long with a beam of 15 m, and the current is usually low, so the dive is easy to run despite its depth.

In 1917 an artillery battery in the hills near Kemer, commanded by Captain Mustafa Ertuğrul, hit the French ship more than 60 times and sank her close to what is now Kemer harbour.
