Coral shelves to 18 m with green turtles as the constant

Area photo: DavideGorla · CC BY 2.0

Gina sits off Aka Island in the western Keramas, a set of coral shelves in water published as reaching 18 m with currents described as calm. Green turtles are the constant here, schools of goatfish and blue tangs move over the shelves, and manta rays are a summer possibility rather than an expectation.

The dive

Gina is a shelf dive on the Aka Island side of the group. Coral shelves make up the terrain, stepping down to a published maximum of 18 m, and the current is reported as calm, which is what puts the site on the list for divers of any level. That depth keeps a normal recreational profile in reach without planning around a hard bottom limit.

Green turtles are common on the shelves and are what most groups come away with; goatfish and blue tangs school over the coral. Manta rays turn up in summer but are not part of the typical dive, and no cleaning station or reliable spot for them is published. Entry, route and turn are set by the shop — the directory entry gives depth and conditions rather than a plan.
