La Catedral

Gothic-looking volcanic rock full of vaults, arches and dykes

La Catedral is a mass of volcanic rock off Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, named for its twisted, almost gothic shapes. The underwater terrain reaches 40 m and is riddled with caves, vaults, arches and near-vertical dykes. Divers come for the architecture of the rock rather than for any single animal.

Also known as Catedral.

The dive

The dive explores a block of volcanic rock whose twisted forms give the site its name. Caves, vaults and arches open in the rock, and dykes stand almost vertically through it, so the route moves between overhangs and openings on terrain that drops to 40 m.
