Caló des Monjo
A 30 m tunnel through the cliffs from 6 m, plus a cavern with an air bubble

Caló des Monjo is a bay between two cliffs on Mallorca, and the dive is about the rock as much as the fish: a 30 m tunnel starting at 6 m runs through to the far side of the cliffs, and the site also has a cavern with an air bubble and a large arch at 18 m. Barracuda, octopus, moray eel, shrimps and nudibranchs live along the way, with Posidonia seagrass on the bottom.

The dive
The bay sits between two cliffs. The main attraction is a 30 m tunnel that starts at 6 m and runs right through the headland, so you can swim from the bay to the other side of the cliffs without surfacing. At that depth the tunnel is the shallow part of the dive: take it slowly, stay off the floor and ceiling, and follow the guide through to the open water beyond, because it is a real overhead even though the depth is modest.
The other feature is a cavern with an air bubble in it, and a huge arch at 18 m, which is the deepest figure published for the site; the source does not say in which order the tunnel and the cavern are dived, so the guide sets the route. The life is Mediterranean rock fauna: barracuda in the water, octopus and moray eel in the holes, shrimps and nudibranchs on the rock for anyone who looks closely, and Posidonia seagrass on the bottom.

Season follows Mallorca: One Santa Ponça centre runs daily April–October and weekends only Nov–Mar; May–Sep brings the calmest seas and warmest water, with leisure-boat traffic in the bays at the height of summer.
