Punta Pirámide

Punta Pirámide sits on Golfo Nuevo, about 5 km from the town of Puerto Pirámides, on the outer arm of Península Valdés. It is one of six nature reserves strung along the peninsula, established as the Reserva Natural Turística Punta Pirámides in 1974 and covering 132 hectares of coastline.

The point functions as a breeding and haul-out ground for South American sea lions, a role already established when the reserve was created in 1974 alongside five other protected areas strung along the peninsula. Before that, the surrounding cliffs had a very different use: they served as target-practice ground for manoeuvres run by the Argentine Navy, a history that predates the point's conservation status entirely.

Diving at Punta Pirámide follows a shallow, current-light profile: Wannadive's site listing puts the average depth at about 10 m, with dives reaching down to around 25 m at their deepest point. Current here runs under 1 knot, and the listing notes no minimum certification level, making it accessible to divers of any experience level.
