The dive
The boat ties on to mooring 8 in Saco do Funil, out of the southwest wind. The descent lands on rocky reef covered in algae and coral from about 4 m, and the ground drops away from there towards 30 m, so plan the deep part of the dive first and work back up the rock.
Alongside the reef are walls, large boulders and a cave, all grown over with algae, so the dive mixes two kinds of ground. Both resident reef fauna and fish passing through the archipelago can be seen here. The mooring is also used for freediving and snorkelling, and kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are allowed on the surface.
