Piran Punta is the wall below the tip of the Piran peninsula, protected as a marine reserve and one of the best-loved sites on the Slovenian coast. The wall runs from 3 m to 14 m, so it suits newer divers, and the reef below continues deeper for those who want more. Eagle rays and the odd turtle pass now and then, and in warm years barracuda too.
Also known as Punta Piran, Piran Punta marine reserve.

The dive
With the boat anchored just outside the marine reserve, divers first descend to 8 m and follow a sand bank to the foot of the wall. A big artificial pyramid stands at the start of the wall, full of small fish hiding from larger ones.
The wall itself spans 3 m to 14 m, and the reef continues down to 25 m for experienced divers. Eagle rays turn up now and then, and occasionally a turtle; in recent years, when the water is warm, barracuda have been around the point too.

Season follows Piran & Portorož: Diving runs all year, but winter dives are on demand; summer fills the Piran Punta reef with life and brings a thermocline that can cloud the wrecks.
