Cocoa Corner
One of the best shark shows around Malé on the right incoming current

Cocoa Corner is a current-swept dive at the edge of a South Malé pass, worked as a drift on either incoming or outgoing water. Incoming is the classic run, with grey reef sharks patrolling the blue at the pass entry; on outgoing current a pair of detached coral blocks holds nurse sharks, grey reefs and stingrays instead. The site averages 25 m with a 30 m maximum and carries a CMAS ** / Advanced Open Water rating.

The dive
The dive plans around the water. Incoming current is generally considered the best: you drop at the entry of the pass and hold in the blue, where loads of grey reef sharks patrol. Wannadive rates the current medium, one to two knots, and the working depth is deeper than the name suggests — the site averages 25 m, with a maximum of 30 m, so gas and no-decompression time need watching while the sharks hold your attention.
On outgoing current the dive changes character. A couple of detached coral blocks become the focus instead, an interesting dive in its own right with nurse sharks, grey reef sharks and stingrays holding around the structure. The incoming run remains the headline, though: Wikipedia's Maldives diving guide calls this, with the right current and conditions, the best shark show around Malé Atoll.

Season follows South Malé Atoll: The dry northeast monsoon, late December to May, is the main season; mantas clean May to August and whale sharks are reported in August on the outer reef.
