Vaadhoo Kandu is the channel at South Malé's northern edge, dived here for its caverns — entrances open in the reef from 7 m all the way down to 40 m. Turtles, unicornfish, whitetip sharks and tuna move through and around the openings. It is a deep dive by atoll standards, averaging 30 m with a 40 m maximum, in a medium current of one to two knots.

The dive
The caverns are the point. Entrances range from 7 to 40 m, and the dive strings them together along the channel reef, with turtles and unicornfish in and around the openings and whitetip sharks and tuna out in the moving water. The listed average depth of 30 m tells you where most of the dive actually happens — this is not a shallow cavern amble.
Wannadive rates the current medium, one to two knots, and with a 40 m maximum the site is planned as an advanced dive: keep a close eye on depth and time at the lower entrances, and finish the dive on the shallower openings where the reef climbs back toward 7 m, letting the last of your no-decompression time run out in the shallow entrances rather than at the bottom of the channel.

Season follows South Malé Atoll: The dry northeast monsoon, late December to May, is the main season; mantas clean May to August and whale sharks are reported in August on the outer reef.
